The members were from Miami Springs Sr. High, Hialeah High, Hialeah-Miami Lakes, and Miami Norland Sr.
High.

“Original” band member playing on the jam were Carlos Hernandez (on guitar, another of the founding
members of Majesty) and Guillermito Sanchez (on Conga and also an original member).  The guy playing
timbales is Roly Bazan, who is the nephew of Cuco and was jamming with us for his uncle.  On the drums was
Aldo Gonzalez.
This is a re-creation Jose
“Pepito” Serra (our light and
sound engineer back then) re-
did,  it’s an accurate
reproduction of how it looked
at that time.  There were
some variations on this one,
but this was the most often-
used version.

Majesty
Majesty was founded in the 1970’s by a group of friends from Hialeah’s
Walker Park neighborhood; it eventually grew to include members from
Hialeah High, Miami Springs Sr. High, Hialeah-Miami Lakes Sr. High, and
Norland Sr. High.
Childhood friends Carlos Hernandez and Ramon Mejido originally set out
to have a little fun and founded another “garage” (actually, more like car-
port) band called “Earth”. They didn’t really have much success with that,
playing mostly relative’s birthday parties, and just about anywhere else
people would let them play.
They later met Tony “Cuco” Perez (drums) , Gullermito “Mac” Sanchez
(precussion), Jose “Pepito” Serra (Lights & Sound), and Joe Granda
(vocals), all guys from the area, and along with Carlos on guitar and Ramon
on bass, that became the original “Majesty”. As time went on, they added
Doug Williams on keyboards, “Las Jimaguas” on vocals, and eventually
added a horn section to complete the sound that would be the Majesty
most of you heard at the Open Houses.
Through the years they shared great success, playing many Open Houses
and events with many of the other great local bands of the time. Recently,
some of the founding members of Majesty have reunited and are currently
working on getting some great music together again. Stay tuned…

MAJESTY REUNION
LAKES CAFE
7-17-10
We did a number of Open Houses at the Hialeah Latin Club, in addition to Milander’s Auditorium (where they also used to
hold a bunch of “Bailes Cubanos”), Walker Park, the Ramada (which back then I believe was a Holiday Inn, but I’m not sure),
Hialeah High, dances and church carnivals at St. John’s (where the Pastor got upset at us because we played “Sympathy
for The Devil”), Immaculate Conception, and Santa Cecilia.  We also played a number of times in Miami Springs at the Lion’s
Club, the Masonic Temple, the Miami Springs Country Club, Miami Springs Sr. High, and others that my advanced age keeps
me from remembering right now, lol.  In reality though, we probably played as much  around Miami as in Hialeah.  We played
many times at the Dupont Plaza Hotel, The Everglades Hotel, Electrician’s Hall, Salon Sofia, Iglesia Episcopal (Hall), Club de
Las Americas, The PBA, The Deuville Hotel, Our Lady of Lebanon, Miami JaiAlai, Marriot Hotel (on LeJuene), Salon Azul, St.
Thomas, again, my age affects my memory, but as I think of others I’ll let you know.

Yes we were known as the “Hialeah Band”, even though I don’t think we ever advertised ourselves that way,  I think we
were referred to by Enrique de La Masa as “Hialeah’s Own” on his show a number of times (we were frequent guests on
his show and many times answered the phone and read dedications on the air during the show).  Most of our members
were from either Hialeah High, Miami Springs Sr. High, or Hialeah-Miami Lakes High (even though we also had members
from Norland High and even from Miami High), and we also had a very large following from the Hialeah/Miami Springs area,
so that’s where that came from.
